ALPHAS!!
The forets of Silent howls
Season: Winter

Today’s Forecast: Sunset: The days are short and cold. Snow falls constantly and seems to never let up. The sun may shine, but don't expect the temperature to rise much. Many animals are long gone and only the small prey have remained but wolves may try their luck and see if they can find something large. What will the Winter season bring?
Alvetra's Temperature:
High's in the 20's and Lows in the -10 degrees.

Devian's Temperatures: High's in the 15's and Lows in the -10 degrees.

Ranook's Temperature: High's in the 21's and lows in the -8 degrees.

By late tonight, all packs should expect lots of snow. Use the calm while you can!

All of the packs have one alpha each. Auditions are no longer open and to become one, your wolf must earn the current alpha's love and trust.

 Ash falls as the snow.
« Thread Started on Sept 8, 2008, 8:41pm »

'This is where it begins.' the thought struck Ashliya as she made her third time around the lands, she was already slightly tired with the two week long journey. The pack of her choice, Alvetra. Yes, her sent could be found all over the edges of the borders. She found this a subtle, I'm-contemplating-your-pack-don't-kill-me, way to let the wolves know of her presence. No dominance games here... not until she was safely accepted by the Alpha. She could smell in her nose where he had made a marker not to long ago. Daily check-ups on the borders earned brownie points with her. She gave her tail a stiff wag of approval.

The snow fell in fluffy little flurries all around. A perfect time to join the ranks of a new family. One that she would give her all to. Proving just that with the white bundle of fluff caught in her jaws. A little on the skinny side, but fresh kill, that usually added to her good Karma in the pack.... Usually. A twisted feeling hit her gut. Cowardliness was not her usual emotion but this was all new to her. She sniffed through the white fluff of the rabbit, nearly growling at herself in disapproval. Cowards were for the subordinate ones. Not her.

'I am not a coward! A good loyal wolf looking to join the ranks of a great pack.' she growled to herself through her nose as her mouth was currently occupied.

She paced back and forth contemplating how to go about this. She lowered her ears and closed her eyes. She asked her instincts, the beast within her set the rabbit down and Ashliya could feel the burning of the song, her song, in the back of her throat. A loud, powerful, and mesmerizing, sound sang over the lands. Her song, Breaker of Hearts, rightly named by her swept with the chilled wind. It's sweet and harmonizing tune carried the call for the Alpha. In a last punishing breath she finished and lowered her jaws. The area around echoed some of her tune back and she couldn't help but smile at the peaceful sound.

Snatching the rabbit back she moved a couple more yards from the border, before dropping it again. A clear sign that she found this animal opposite the side of the pack-lands. She plopped her butt to the ground... bad move. She gave a small yelp as the cold seeped through her fur. With a grumble she kept her gaze over the snow covered terra searching for the Alpha.

Ooc:(This isn't as good as my original post but hope you like.)

She's been by again... the timberwolf thought to himself, picking up the female's scent just outside the border. It had never crossed inside of the boundary line, and didn't seem all that hostile, so Xhilrian would tolerate it and eventually ignore it if it continued. Unlike some alphas he had met, he didn't mind a little friendly company as long as it remained friendly.

He walked as quietly as he could around the border, stopping every so often to refresh a scent marking or check the scent and sound of the forest. With winter coming, the pack's usual prey was already starting to hibernate. This was unfortunate, but a good sign. That meant that unusual prey would be wandering into the forest, such as elk and caribou. The pack would be a bit underfed for a little while, but then the real hunting would begin.

Xhilrian stopped and looked up at the sky, which was lightly dumping white powder. Winter's one drawback... He didn't mind extreme temperatures. His thick pelt protected him from the cold as long as he didn't get himself wet, and if the temperatures weren't insane. It was the snow that he hated. It build up in every meadow, every uncovered patch, and was the perfect way to freeze his paw pads until they cracked and bled.

He turned himself around, starting to head deeper into the woods to get back to Alvetra's camp. He had checked the borders and was eager to get back to his sheltered den. Then he heard it. It didn't come entirely by suprise, he had almost been expecting it, just not so soon. He threw his bead back to tell his beta to remain in camp and started off towards the sound of the howl at a steady pace.

Xhilrian came across another timberwolf and, as expected, recognized the scent. He looked her up and down for a moment and even went so far as to circle her. She doesn't seem like the one to pick an unnessicary fight with. He stopped in front of her, glancing for a second at the white bumdle at her paws. What is your name, and your business here? he asked.

oocness// The re-done version is never as good as the original I find because you're thinking "Oh damn! I just erased 5 minutes of work!" and scramble to quickly re-do it. That's what happens to me anyway.
I liked it though.

Ashliya came from her sitting postition because the ground was turning to water from her warm body. A slight annoyance, for now her tail was wet and it was cold. She turned to give her tail a few licks. Unknowing a male was coming her way, for her nose was burried in her own tail. Right when she reopened her eyes a big blur of grey and white circled around her. Oh how observent she was! With a bound she leaped away from him, she could tell it was male now that her nose was out of her fur, as he came to stop in front of her.

Quickly, from the sound of his voice she could tell he was the Alpha, she lowered her eyes to the ground and flipped over onto her back. Oh being submissive was a pain, but as she revealed her stomach she answered his question. "Ashliya, sire. I come to join your pack."

She kept her eyes on his feet barely travelling up to his taunt shoulders. Oh he definantly smelled of male. She couldn't wait till she could see the rest of him. Ash soon felt the cold seep into her back fur. She couldn't help but shiver slightly and fought the urge to roll over. Before she forgot she spoke again. "The rabbit is an offering for you and you pack. It's not much...." She trailed off and glanced at the dead thing and then back to the Alpha's feet.

(Ooc: ugh my muse is gone hope you get something off it sorry :/))

Xhilrian cocked his head to the side. Sure, he had seen wolves flip onto their back, but it was always after he had fought a defiant wolf and made them do it. He had never seen anything just roll over. Maybe I frightened her? He took a few more steps and stopped beside her. The alpha bent his front end down and started nudging her side with him nose. On your paws, you don't want to fall ill. he said gently, standing back up.

Greeting Ashliya. I am Xhilrian, Alvetra's alpha male. He considered her request. We always have room for more wolves. Xhilrian looked back at the rabbit. There's a young mother who would be glad to accept your offering. Anything is appreciated. he said, nudging the rabbit.

At his nudge and gentle tones Ashliya lept to her feet. Soon as she was on her paws she gave her coat a good shake. Sending the melted snow away from her skin. So she was dealing with a kind Alpha. Maybe she went to far with rolling on to her back. Of course insinct, as always. The sent around the boarders couldn't tell her much except that he was male, big, and of course the alpha. Not much to tell her if she was walking in on a pack that thirsted for death and killing. Of course that would have been a challenging pack. She was ALWAYS up for challenges. Though truthfully this male sent small shivers down her spine, she'd prefer to enter his domain than a wolf who thought he could rule her entirely.

Finally she took the time to look into his face. Not to stare him in the eye, of course, but just a glance at his sharp jaws and balanced features. Quickly she glanced back down, oh was his beta in for a surpise when he met her, with the way she was acting it was if she was a docile, shy, female. 'Wonder if the beta is a looker too?' the thought passed through her head and quickly she turned her attention back to the wolf speaking to her.

"Xhilrian... I like that," she ran the name over her tongue, giving her tail a swift happy wag.

She glanced at the rabbit, as he and hesitated on weather to grab it and carry it or let Xhilrian do it. His terra, and since she brought it he might want to play macho or something. Though with a shrug she walked over to it and bent to retrive it. Oh, now she couldn't talk.... Still holding her eyes no higher than his chin she looked at him. Another trill went down to her stomach, she nearly growled in annoyance, she was not the nevervous type at all. Tackling wolves twice her size in her, now past, loner life. Of course a growl would probably send Xhilrian's hackles rising. As she was acting docile he might be acting kind, maybe both of them were on their toes.

Shaking off the feeling she continued to look pointedly at him, almost studing him. Well maybe she was but that was just a bonus, really she was looking at him for him to lead the way into the terra, and show her around....

Xhilrian gave the female a small smile. I never much liked it. Too complicated. Ashliys's much easier to remember. He turned towards the direction camp was in. I'll take you to camp then I can give you a tour of the territory if you like. he said gently, beginning to walk . He stopped, waiting until he was sure she was following, then began again, this time without slowing or stopping. I probably shouldn't try speaking to her until she doesn't have her mouth full.

It didn't take long to make it to camp, the pair had been at the border closest to camp. This way. he said, leading the female towards one of the nearest dens. He poked his head inside of it. Artica? He asked quietly. I don't know where she is. Probably teaching my sisters to hunt. a small, fearful voice replied. Alright. He turned his head to look at Ashliya. That's Lunis, my... daughter. he explained, poking a paw inside the den to indicate the nervous pup. She retreated to a far corner of the den, as though she expected her father to fly at her and rip her to pieces.

You can leave the rabbit here, her mother will get to it when she gets back. He told Ashliya, looking over at the silver pup again. What the hell did Artica do to make her that timid, thrash her regularly? Xhilrian wondered, turning his full attention back to the other female. Shall we explore the territory or would you like to rest up a bit first? he asked.

Ashliya padded quietly after the brute. 'Oh much better view...' she thought to herself, with a devious smirk, though it was hidden by the rabbit. While they walked to the camp in silence Ash keep a mental map of the land in her head. Slowly taking the shapes and sents of the trees and bushes, sometimes allowing the male to gain a couple feet ahead of her before she caught up to him by his sent, which the petite female was finding quite an aroma. Loping happily she really couldn't believe just a year ago she was lapping up scraps and weak animals. Now she would join in with the ranks of hunting big games. She could feel her mouth water with the thought of elk.

'That was... quick,' she thought when the pair entered the camp. Ashliya followed the sound of his voice to a small dug in den. She set the rabbit down and gave herself a quick scratch behind the ear. Stupid fleas. Ashliya wasn't usually maternal but she heard the small voice pip up from the den. Half the conversation she didn't pay attention to as she was currently looking around the camp. 'Nice, cozy, and... home' was her thought.

"Huh?" She whipped her head around as she heard her name, "Oh well isn't she... sweet. Your daughter huh?"

She picked the rabbit back up and padded to the front of the dens and gently set the fluff down. She sent the smallish pup a wink, "Don't eat all of it ok? Your mom and siblings might want some.... Call me Ash."

Of course Ashilya backed away while she said that. Mother wolves don't usually appreciate strangers close to their pups. Speaking of, that must mean that Xhilirian was taken....

For a moment she contemplated Xhilirian's question. Then with a blured motion she came down on her forearms, with her rump in the air. "Race?" She was fast and this was her perfect chance to show this brute just how lithe and quick she was. She might look like a whelp but in actuality speed was her game....

Xhilrian cocked his head and watched Ashliya uncertainly. He rarely did anything just for fun anymore. Now that winter was approaching, he was even less likely to have the desire to do so. It's so much warmer in my den... he grumbled inwardly. I suppose... he said slowly, tensing his muscles.

"Or not?" she said taking in his questioning look. "thought you wanted to show me around."

She then gave a devious smirk and lept gracefully over the alpha. Days of her being a loner had kept her muscles in great shape. Her small frame landed into the snow and two more leaps and she was were it wasn't sinking into her stomach fur. With a quizical head she looked back at the handsome form of the alpha. Too bad he was taken. He gave her the impression he wasn't, though who was to say. Then she spoke up, "though, sire, would you introduce me to the Alphess here? I would love to meet your mate."

Ashliya said this with a wagging tail and looked pointedly at the pup that was cowering in the den, he said it was his daughter so that must mean he had mated her mother. 'Ok that was a brain fart... well duh that ment he was mated,' she thought to herself inwardly frowning. Soon she turned her attention to the handsome Xhilerain, to a wait his answer.

Xhilrian watched the female hop around, now with a look of amusement. There isn't one. he said quietly, loking over at the silver pup. There was a sort of... misunderstanding between her mother and myself. He began visualizing the territory in his head, deciding which place was the best one to start with. I suppose we could race to the river. It's easy to find. He figured it would be best to think of all Avetra's landmarks as a list of items on a hunt. Ashliya seemed playful, it may be best to humor her. He gave his tail a gentle, encouraging wag. This is going to be a long day...
